NICKY WIRE: THE PLACE SEEMED HAUNTED BY THE PAST
Manic Street Preachers’ lyricist and bassist, Nicky Wire, shares his thoughts on the Roundhouse
“Growing up, the Roundhouse seemed like one of those mythical venues that only the greats played. It was always a dream for the Manics to play there but it seemed to have disappeared as a rock ’n’ roll venue, then out of the blue we found ourselves filming the Design For Life video inside the building. The place seemed haunted by the past, it was still special and you can feel it in the video, felt like history was being made. Since then we have played there many times, doing The Holy Bible anniversary shows in particular were brilliant. Iconic album played in an iconic venue.
