Arnold Wesker's vision of art for all - Roundhouse - Celebrating 50 Years

ARNOLD WESKER'S VISION OF ART FOR ALL

1960 – 1970

When the Roundhouse was just a shell in 1960, playwright Arnold Wesker was granted a 19 year lease. He planned to create a cultural centre called Centre 42, which would welcome the local community in to enjoy the arts and put an end to art being just for the elite.

This BBC footage shows Wesker explaining his vision and then how – and why – it came to end.
